Diabetes is linked to having blood glucose that remains too high after eating carbohydrates (sugar) you eat. This occurs when the insulin released in the blood is insufficient or ineffective. It is insulin that moves glucose inside the body's cells. In this case, the cells are deprived of nutrients and the glucose that stays too high in the blood becomes toxic.
It can be difficult to find time and ideas to offer a rich, varied and healthy nutrition for ourselves and our children, whether it be for a large family, a single parent or simply overwhelmed parents. It is, however, very important to help our children develop good eating habits to promote their growth and to avoid present or future diet-related illnesses.
As you are well aware, nothing beats fresh, complete and unprocessed foods.
Cholesterol is a type of fat that is essential to the functioning of our body as long as it is present in limited quantity. It is produced in part by the liver, but also comes from certain foods we consume such as meat, eggs, dairy products, and other animal fats. If LDL cholesterol increases in the blood, it becomes dangerous because it is deposited on the inner wall of the arteries and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke. This problem is called hypercholesterolemia.
High blood pressure is considered to be too high when it is above 140/90 mm Hg. In Canada, more than 4.6 million people have been diagnosed with hypertension and many others have high blood pressure without knowing it.
Why should I control my blood pressure?
Hypertension caused damage to the walls of the blood vessels that feed the muscles, the heart, the brain and also all the organs of our body. This can eventually cause cardiovascular heart disease.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome is an intestinal disorder that usually causes bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, cramping and/or abdominal pain. This problem can be addressed through a specific diet called FODMAP and developed since 2005 by Sue Shepard, an Australian nutritionist and dietitian. This food technique is specifically recommended to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and has been proven with helping more than 75% of the cases treated.
A nutrient deficiency happens when we do not eat all the nutrients our body needs to function properly. There are many nutritional deficiencies, as many as there are nutrients! The most common deficiencies are vitamins deficiency, iron deficiency and trace elements such as magnesium or zinc.
Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens the bones and reduces their resistance. Those affected are more likely to have fractures or have changes in bone structure. The skeleton can then be affected, especially the vertebrae, wrists and the femur.
The causes of this disease are various, but it mainly affects women starting at about 50 years of age, or during menopause.
During this period, there is a decrease in estrogen, which causes another marked increase in the decalcification of the bones.
